Moscow [Russia], February 18: Russia has welcomed the emergency summit on the Ukraine war organized by French President Emmanuel Macron in Paris on Monday.
It would be positive if the talks by European leaders were about ending the conflict instead of continuing it, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov was quoted as saying by Russian news agency Interfax. Russia has repeatedly claimed that the war it started almost three years ago is being prolonged by the supply of Western weapons to Ukraine.
Peskov called the question of a possible deployment of European peacekeeping troops in Ukraine, currently under discussion in France and Britain, "difficult" as it involves armed forces from NATO member states.
There are rules for such a deployment, the spokesman for President Vladimir Putin emphasised. (DPA)
