Yangon [Myanmar], February 11: Five people were killed and seven others injured after a car plunged into a ravine in eastern Myanmar's Shan state on Friday, according to the Myanmar Fire Service Department.
The deceased included two males and three females, while the injured were three men and four women, it said.
The accident happened at around 10 a.m. local time when the car with 12 people onboard fell into a 1,000-foot (304.8-meter) ravine in Keng Tung town of Shan state, a rescuer from the Tai Nay Rescue Team told Xinhua.
"Five people died on the spot. Two of the injured girls are in critical condition," he said, adding that the victims and bodies were brought back to the road from the deep ravine.
The passengers were on their way to Keng Tung for a visit, he said. The driver was among the injured who had been sent to the Keng Tung hospital for treatment.
